Legal Expertise
Michaela's legal career grew out of her clerkship for the United States House of Representatives during tax reform. She continued her career in the public sector following law school as an Illinois Assistant Attorney General defending state agencies in workers' compensation cases before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission (formerly the Illinois Industrial Commission). Michaela then practiced law in the private sector, handling matters involving real estate law, property tax law, banking law and criminal law before joining KFP as an associate. Since joining KFP, Michaela monitors lawsuits involving professional liability insurance policies and commercial general liability policies nationwide. In addition, she attends mediations on behalf of clients and participates in litigation. Michaela also provides pro bono legal services.
Education and Achievements
Michaela earned her undergraduate degree in International Relations from Georgetown University in 1986. She earned her juris doctor degree from IIT Chicago Kent College of Law in 1991 where, during her first year, she was a semifinalist in the Charles Evans Moot Court Competition, and, during her third year, she was on the Dean's Advisory Board. Michaela is admitted to practice in the State of Illinois and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She recently co-authored the article The Davila Legacy.
